Golden lake Tilapia was established in 2003 directly off the shores of the beautiful volcanic island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua in Central America.

Golden Lake Tilapia is a totally unique type of Tilapia. Our new, exclusive Hybrid Tilapia was bred in collaboration with AKVAFORSK, the world's foremost Salmon breeders. This special Hybrid Nile Tilapia yields a much larger, thicker fillet that lends itself to perfect cooking, and unbeatable taste and texture.
Other Tilapia farms cultivate their fish in either ponds or concrete raceways where they have access to algae, soil and other organic materials that they feed on. These tendencies attribute to Tilapia having what is commonly referred to as a "muddy flavor" or "off-flavor". Golden Lake's Tilapia aquaculture farm is completely different. Our Tilapia are raised in floating salmon cages 25 meters above the lake’s floor inhibiting access to the bottom.
Golden Lake Tilapia maintains total control from the fingerling stage to harvest allowing for superior quality and unparalleled consistency. Our Tilapia is fed the highest quality feed from certified feed suppliers. Together, this combination of a controlled growing environment and premium feed program guarantees a cleaner, fresher, superior tasting fillet.
Harvest, Processing and Packaging:
We harvest and ship fresh fillets daily. When Tilapia reaches their optimal harvest weight of 1 to 1.25 kilos, they are removed from the cages and transported to the HACCP approved processing plant for processing. Each fish is carefully filleted boneless and skinless, so that they are ready to cook fresh upon arrival without any fuss. The fresh fillets are packed in 10 lb. styrofoam boxes which are then placed within a 40 lb. master box for export. Each shipment is made with 24 hours of harvest to ensure that our consumers get the freshest tilapia fillets on the market.
Production:
Our aquaculture farm is permitted for up to 5,000 tons of annual production. |
